Now im no master mechanic by any stretch of the imagination but i've got a Garrett/AirResearch T3 in excellent condition which came off my old Fiat Croma, It's in almost brand new condition. I was gonna stick it on eBay but had a second thought, will it fit on my s13? I don't know much about it spec wise but im thinking that if it's a T3 then theoretically it's has to be better than the standard T25? correct?? If so how would i go about fitting it? How different physically can they really be? am i barking up the wrong tree and be better off just buying a T28? I know it's a lot of questions but i don't want to start pulling things apart for no reason!

cheers

This is the turbo in question

I am not a turbo expert, but if its the same as a garrett T3, then it can be made to fit... bit of pain I have heard tho... OK spool up (full boost at 3500-4000rpm) and can withstand boost pressures of 20psi :)

i guess it's the same as the one in the pictures but mine came off a fiat so im not sure

You need to know what it came off - there are loads of different spec T3s from ones that power MG metros to ones that will work better than a T28 on an S13... It's no good just guessing though :)

Can you tell us the A/R on the compressor housing and on the turbine housing?

AR .42/.48

And the trim of the compressor wheel. A 40 Trim T3 would be a waste of time fitting it to an S13 IMO. A 60 Trim would work pretty well.

This might help you find a part number for the turbo ?fabricante=FIAT&logo=fiat

As was said, there is lot of different T3 specifications and some are not good for S13, some are perfect....generally, for S13 you should want just two biggest compressors trims -60 or super60. It mean that comnpressor diameter should be 60mm. This will be perfect power upgrade. Also, take care about exhaust turbine. I would reccommend you .48AR for good spool up.

I have this turbo (T3 super60) and also lot of experiances, so can help in your installation.
Also, check my sig for ECU upgrade.

Why?

Why?

Very easy answer, just check above maps....Small T3 trims are very insufficient for S13 purposes and will not give you any benefits even over standard T25....

Yep, something like a 40 trim would run out of puff pretty quickly in much the same way as the T25 does.

Raddy, Papa

Do you know what a 2wd cosworth T3 is? All I can see is the .48?

Papa Lazarou

Not off the top of my head. I thought it was something like..

Cossy 2d = T3 50 Trim, 0.48 a/r
Cossy 4d = T3 60 Trim, 0.48 a/r
Escort Cos = T3/T04E (40 trim?), 0.63 a/r (early big turbo) or T28 (later small turbo)

Perhaps someone familiar with Cossies can confirm

so what is the best turbo to use, money no object??

Raddy

Compressor from my previous 2d Cossy (sierra) T3 is laying on my table, so I will measure it later today....But probably it will be 50trim, as Papa said.

Absolutely best T3 turbo is T3 super60 trim, 48AR exh. I have it in my S13, it can supply more than 1.3bar until redline, 1bar of boost at about 3500rpm....

A T88, coupled to an RB26, perhaps
