Macan unleashed

MALAYSIAN Porsche cars importer Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) finally announced the full pricing scheme for the Porsche brand's new and highly anticipated Macan compact sports crossover.

SDAP will offer four trims starting with the standard Macan, followed by the Macan S, the Macan S Diesel, and the range-topping Macan Turbo.

In standard Macan form, the compact sports crossover features a powerful yet efficient 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as its heart.

Not only capable of delivering 237hp healthily, the mill also boasts an impressive NEDC-rated fuel consumption figure of 7.2 litres/100km. Nevertheless, this does little at dampening the standard Macan's naturally sporty nature, a fact proven by its 6.9-second century sprint time and 223km/h top speed.

Without options, the standard Macan carries a starting price of RM420,000. Next comes the more powerful and higher equipped Macan S. Underneath, the S is motivated by a 3.0-litre bi-tubro V6 petrol engine that develops 340hp.

All power is harnessed via an electronically controlled active all-wheel-drive and seven-speed signature PDK double-clutch transmission, both features offered as standard across the entire Macan range, granting the Macan S with a 5.4-second century sprint time (5.2 seconds with optional Sport Chrono pack) and higher top speed of 254km/h.

Without options, the Macan S commands a starting price of RM560,000. The Macan S Diesel, on the other hand, stands as the most economical long-distance runner amongst the four variants.

Powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel V6 with 258hp, the Macan S Diesel bridges the traits of an athletic sports car with the incredible long distance fuel economy of a diesel.

This is proven by the fact that the Macan S Diesel is capable of sprinting from standstill to 100km/h in just 6.3 seconds (6.1 seconds with Sport Chrono pack) and hits a top speed of 230km/h whilst sipping between 6.3 to 6.1 litres/100km of fuel (NEDC rating).

The only oil-burning Macan in the line up commands a starting price of RM545,000 sans options. Finally, comes the range-topping Macan Turbo. Lurking underneath its metal is Porsche's all-new 3.6-litre bi-turbo V6 petrol engine introduced for the first time in this variant of the Macan.

Generating an unrivalled power figure of 400hp, the new mill sees the Macan Turbo complete the century sprint in just 4.8 seconds, or 4.6 seconds with optional Sport Chrono pack, before hitting its claimed top speed of 266km/h.

Without options, the range-topping Macan Turbo carries a starting price of RM785,000. All prices listed includes SDAP's offer of a four-year factory warranty plus a four-year complimentary service, parts, and maintenance package.

The Macan range is now available for viewing and bookings at Porsche Centres located in Damansara and Glenmarie. Additionally, members of the public can also get a closer look of the new Macan range during SDAP's on-going Porsche road show. The road show will be held first on Sept 19 to 21 in Paragon Mall, Penang, followed by another on Oct 15 to 19 at the Bangsar Shopping Centre.
