How are your wastegates routed? I was just wondering how you get that "oooooWHAAAAP" sound? The good sounding Supras usually dont sound like normal dump pipes, as those sound like jets taking off (just a loud WSSSHHHH).

This is what Im talking about with the open-sounding dump tubes. Cant hear anything but the Whoosh.

Here is what I would think is an internal wastegate or a quietly rerouted one?

And this is the nice "Supra" sound that I speak of.

Just wanting to know what your wastegate setups are like.

Those all sound like external wastegates. They are pretty much standard on any bigger single turbo kit. Bigger meaning t-78, or pt67+ + larger.

First and third video sounds like external wastegate with vent to atmosphere dump tube while the middle one sounds like internal gated to external wastegate with dump tube rerouted back into exhaust system.

the nice "supra" sound you are reffering to is AdrockTT's car and it has an atmospheric wastegate with an sp74 turbo kit. i think the sound depends on how the wastegate is mounted (angle/location) depending on the header used and also could have to do with the kind of wastegate you are using. if you like the sound of Adrock's car, he is using the HKS manifold with the GT wastegate, i guess that starts you in the right direction at least. just for the record, my friends T88h car has the greddy header and greddy type c wastegate (atmospheric) and it sounds INCREDIBLE, definately the best sounding car i have ever ridden in, sounds very similar to adrock's. im not sure i have ever heard a wastegate that has been re-routed back into the exhaust, but i would think it would sound like an internal wastegate with little to no noise.

Post up some vids of the INCREDIBLE sounding supra.

The first and third will most likely sound the same from inside the car, although my greddy wastegate has a higher pitch cound compared to the HKS wastegate that sound a little deeper imo.

i know, i know, its not the best video and the song kind of hides the sound of the car but i will work on getting him to make some new vids asap.

Sweetest sounding supra i've ever heard in a video was Miss Pinks. I wanted to dry hump that car when I heard it the first time!

Ok thanks. I was figuring it was a dumped wastegate, and that sound is particular of maybe just I6s? Every time Ive ever heard a referrence to an external wastegate it sounded exactly the same. Even once on an MKIII Supra whenever the BIC downpipes were made available with a dump tube, and one guy got a vidoe of his and he would floor it and all you'd hear after the turbo spooler was a a WOOOSH sound. Well no use trying to explain it with words... he's another one of my videos I uploaded. This one isnt so bad, but I was just wondering why some dumped wastegates sound so different?

That's definitely in my top 5 favorite Supra videos. :) I love that sound!

The turbine sound comes from a big turbo with (maybe) no filter in front of it !
The barking sound comes from a open wastegate dump!
Do always leave your wastegate dump open, i you plumb it back you will loose power. :nono:
